1 head of cabbage, cored, boiled for 15 minutes and veins thinned
1 lb hamburger (80%)
1 c uncooked rice
1/2 c breadcrumbs
1/4 c ketchup
Milk (enough to hold meat together when making balls)
2 jars of your favorite sauce or homemade sauce equivalent
1/2 to 1 c white vinegar (depends on taste preference)
Mix the hamburger, rice, egg, breadcrumbs, ketchup and milk by hand. Roll the meat into 2 1/2" balls. Place the a ball in a piece of cabbage and roll the cabbage around the balls. Place a small amount of sauce in the bottom or the crockpot. Place the golunkis in the pot. Pour the remainder of the sauce and vinegar in the crockpot. Cook on high for 4 hours and then low for 2 hours.
Time: 6 hours Serves: 8-10
My grandmother made these a lot when I was little. They also freeze well. I serve them with mashed potatoes and another vegetable.
