3 c flour
1 t baking powder
1 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
3/4 c shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
1 t vanilla
1 c sour milk (To make sour milk: Put 1 T vinegar in a 1 c measurer and add milk up to the 1 c line.)
1 can or homemade batch of vanilla frosting
1 can or homemade batch of chocolate frosting
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix the shortening and sugar till smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the sour milk. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes. Cool. Spread half of each cookie bottom with vanilla frosting and the other half with cholocate frosting.

I grew up eating these weekly. Some people refer to these cookies as black and whites. I know them as half moons. You can tint the white frosting for seasonal cookies.
